Kathmandu: NASA is preparing for its Artemis II mission, which will be the first crewed journey toward the Moon since the Apollo 17 mission. The mission will carry four astronauts aboard the Orion spacecraft to orbit the Moon and return safely to Earth.
The crew includes Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen. The mission aims to test critical systems, including life support and navigation, to ensure astronauts can safely travel and operate in deep space.
During the mission, the Orion spacecraft will travel around the Moon, allowing the crew to observe the lunar surface and conduct operational tests. This journey is designed to provide essential data for future missions, including Artemis III, which is planned to land astronauts on the Moon.
NASA has stated that Artemis II will focus on safety and system performance rather than scientific experiments. Astronauts will also perform manual control tests to evaluate spacecraft handling in space conditions.
While modern technology continues to play a role in space exploration, NASA has not confirmed the use of commercial smartphones such as an “iPhone 17 Pro Max” during the mission. Official imaging and documentation are expected to rely on certified space-grade equipment.
The Artemis II mission represents a major step in NASA’s long-term goal of establishing a sustainable human presence on the Moon and supporting future missions to Mars.
