New Government Formed as PM Balendra Shah Sworn In with 15-Member Cabinet

Kathmandu, March 27: A 15-member Council of Ministers has been formed under the leadership of newly appointed Prime Minister Balendra Shah.

President Ramchandra Paudel administered the oath of office and secrecy to the ministers during a special ceremony held at the President’s Office, Sheetal Niwas, in the presence of the Prime Minister.

Among the key appointments, Dr Swarnim Wagle was sworn in as Minister for Finance, Sudhan Gurung as Minister for Home Affairs, and Shishir Khanal as Minister for Foreign Affairs. Other major portfolios include Sunil Lamsal for Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Urban Development, and Biraj Bhakta Shrestha for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation.

Similarly, Nisha Mehata was appointed Minister for Health and Population and Water Supply, while Dr Bikram Timilsina took charge of Communications and Information Technology. Other ministers include Pratibha Rawal, Shobita Gautam, Geeta Chaudhary, Dr Deepak Shah, and Sita Badi, who were assigned key portfolios covering law, agriculture, labour, and social sectors.

Prime Minister Shah has retained the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies under his direct leadership for the time being.

Earlier in the day, President Paudel appointed Shah parliamentary leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party as Prime Minister in accordance with Article 76(1) of the Constitution of Nepal.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut, National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Prasad Dahal, former prime ministers, senior government officials, security chiefs, and members of the diplomatic community.
